National Cybersecurity CTF

Represented FISAT at a national-level cybersecurity Capture The Flag competition competing against teams from universities across India.

My Story

My Story

Participating in this national-level CTF was one of the most intense and rewarding experiences of my engineering journey. It was a comprehensive three-day program that pushed our skills to the limit.

Day 1: Device Setup & Authentication

The first day was entirely dedicated to establishing our environment. We set up our workstations, configured secure networking protocols, and went through rigorous authentication procedures to ensure a level playing field.

Day 2: The Main CTF Finale

This was the core of the competition. Having already participated in the intense qualifying rounds—where our team secured an impressive 24th Rank—we were ready for the finals.

The competition threw a lot of curveballs at us. One of the hardest challenges was a Web Exploitation problem that involved bypassing a custom WAF to exploit a Blind SQL Injection. It took us hours just to get a working payload. We also faced a complex Reverse Engineering challenge where we had to analyze a stripped Linux binary and find a hidden backdoor.

Day 3: Mentorship & Expert Talks

The final day shifted focus from competition to learning. We had the incredible opportunity to listen to industry experts and exciting speakers who came to mentor and guide us. These sessions provided deep insights into the future of cybersecurity and how we can shape our careers.

What I Learned

  • Teamwork under pressure: Communication is key when the clock is ticking.
  • Advanced Web Exploitation: Deepened my understanding of WAF bypass techniques.
  • Endurance: Staying focused during a 24-hour non-stop event requires significant mental stamina.

This experience significantly boosted my practical cybersecurity skills and showed me the importance of continuous learning in this rapidly evolving field.
